FASD Fundamentals
In this 7-hour online course, students learn about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) including myths and misconceptions about FASD, effects of prenatal alcohol exposure, impact of alcohol on a developing fetus, physical effects of FASD, FASD and mental health, as well as behaviours and support strategies.
Skills / Knowledge
- Identify several commonly believed myths about FASD
- Explain how alcohol is transferred from the mother's blood to the fetus
- Describe how alcohol affects the developing fetus
- Identify several physical conditions that are more prevalent for those in the population living with FASD compared to the general population
- Identify common mental health disorders experienced by people with FASD
- Identify common behaviours people with FASD may engage in and identify several strategies to support people who engage in these behaviours
- Build on strengths of those individuals who have FASD to promote success
